May editor’s note

At the beginning of May, we celebrated mothers of all stripes, so as the month comes to an end, we wanted to talk about the joys and challenges that can come with being a mom.

At the beginning of May, we celebrated mothers of all stripes, so as the month comes to an end, we wanted to talk about the joys and challenges that can come with being a mom. Motherhood can be a beautiful, fraught thing. And for many of us, motherhood means urinary incontinence, whether we’re experiencing it for the first time with a new baby, or coping with it again with a second or third birth.

Because postpartum UI is so common (up to half of new moms experience leaks even five years after giving birth!), we spend a lot of time at Motherfigure talking about it. So we’re thrilled to devote our May newsletter to highlighting some of our amazing mom writers and their UI stories.

One writer shares how she used humor to cope with the unexpected side effects of her bigger second baby. Another talks us through her experience growing up with UI—and how motherhood brought relief, and a sense of community, because she was no longer alone among her peers. We’re also breaking down fast facts on postpartum incontinence and management options. Finally, we’ve got a review from one ecofriendly mom devoted to cloth diapers, who turned to cloth GladRags to manage her UI.

As always, let us know what you think.
